Homicide detectives have been called in to investigate after a body was discovered in a burning vehicle in Abbotsford Friday night.

The integrated homicide investigation team (IHIT) confirmed Saturday they are on scene and are asking witnesses and drivers with dashcam video to come forward.

Body found in burning vehicle in rural Abbotsford, homicide team deployed

The Integrated Homicide Investigation Team confirmed via Twitter early Saturday that investigators were on location in the 5300-block of Bates Road.

Abbotsford police say firefighters were called to a vehicle fire in the 5300 block of Bates Road around 10:30 p.m. and arrived to find an SUV fully engulfed.

The Abbotsford fire department was called out late Friday to a report of an SUV on fire. Inside the vehicle they found a body.

The investigation is in its early stages. It’s not yet known how long the vehicle had been burning or if any other incidents are connected.

Abbotsford police labelled the death as suspicious and IHIT was immediately called in to take over the case.

Homicide investigators have been deployed to rural north Abbotsford where a body was found inside a burning vehicle Friday night.

There is no word yet on whether the body has been identified, or whether it is a gang-related incident.

Homicide investigators were then dispatched after Abbotsford police determined the incident was suspicious.

Investigators are seeking witnesses or dash cam video. Anyone with information is asked to contact the Abbotsford police.

Abbotsford firefighters rushed to the scene near a rural area, north of the city, near Harris and Townshipline Roads

ABBOTSFORD (NEWS 1130) – A late-night car fire has turned into a potential homicide investigation which has engaged an investigation.

Crews were called to a fire on Bates Road between Townshipline road and Harris road where firefighters found an SUV on fire 10:30 p.m. Friday.

Abbotsford police were called and while the investigation is in the early stages, officers quickly realized the death was suspicious.

The investigation is being treated as suspicious with Integrated Homicide Investigation Team now in charge of the investigation.
