Valencia vs Ajax starting line-ups: Guedes replaces Cheryshev for hosts
Albert Celades made his FC Barcelona debut under Johan Cruyff, Ajaxs emblematic figure. The now Valencia coach will have his team face the lastest generation of players that have been brought up under the methods of the legendary Dutch coach.

Johan Cruyff called the Quinta del Mini the group formed, among others, by Roger García, Óscar García, Velamazán, De la Peña and Albert Celades. The latter was considered in Barcelona as the Dutch coachs right-hand man.

Ajax are undefeated so far and have scored 21 times across their past seven matches, so they will certainly pose a threat to a Valencia side missing five potential starters in the form of Jose Gaya, Cristiano Piccini, Kevin Gameiro, Carlos Soler and Geoffrey Kondogbia.

Celades made his First Division debut with FC Barcelona in 1995, the same year Louis Van Gaal led Ajax to win their fourth – and to date, last – European Cup. A whim of fate, the midfielder would meet the coach two years later at the Camp Nou.

Valencia went into their Champions League opener in crisis mode after the sacking of Marcelino and hiring of Albert Celades, but a lot has changed since then.

On Wednesday, Celades hosts Ajaxs lastest generation of players in Mestalla, a cross between generations who have been brought up with the style Johan Cruyff inoculated in both world football capitals. However, romanticism apart, Valencia will want to give continuity to its performance in London after a decent performance in last years Champions League.

Ajaxs Hakim Ziyech Scores An Absolute Screamer Against Valencia

Albert Celades has made two changes to his starting line-up from the weekend as Valencia host Ajax in the Champions League.

Turning their attention to this home clash, Valencia will be relying on Rodrigo to get the goals, and he will be a real threat up front. An excellent performance against Ajax could put Valencia on top of the table, and additionally help their fans forget that their star man almost joined Atletico Madrid in the close season before the move fell through. Will Rodrigo be Valencia’s hero once more?

Goncalo Guedes replaces Denis Cheryshev on the left while Gabriel Paulista comes in for Mouctar Diakhaby in the centre of defence.

Ajax are unbeaten in all competitions this season and will look to continue that streak in Spain. The Dutch club look like they will again be in another title race with PSV Eindhoven that will last until the final weekends of the season. Like all great Ajax teams of the past, Erik ten Hag’s team scores goals in bunches. Five different players have scored at least four goals. Dusan Tadic looked like an average Premier League player while he was with Southampton. Since joining Ajax last year, Tadic has been incredible. This season, Tadic has scored eight goals and added eight assists in all competitions. The Serbian winger will be key to Ajax’s attack on Wednesday.

Valencias starting line-up: Jasper Cillessen; Daniel Wass, Ezequiel Garay, Gabriel Paulista, Jaume Costa; Ferran Torres, Francis Coquelin, Dani Parejo, Goncalo Guedes; Maxi Gomez and Rodrigo.

Valencia have got off to a very rough start in La Liga. The Bats have only won two of their first seven games. After settling for 16 draws last season, Valencia already have three draws. In the six-game group stage, a draw could be the difference between going through or being eliminated. The Bats’ biggest issue this season has been keeping the ball out of their net. Valencia have been outscored in their La Liga games. If Valencia do not fix their defensive liabilities, Ajax’s explosive attack could put a few balls behind former Ajax keeper Jasper Cillessen.

Ajaxs starting line-up: Andre Onana; Sergino Dest, Joel Veltman, Daley Blind, Nicolas Tagliafico; Edson Alvarez, Donny van de Beek, Lisandro Martinez; Hakim Ziyech, Dusan Tadic, Quincy Promes.
