Soccer-Chelsea\s Lampard looks to young Ajax for Champions League inspiration - National Post
Chelsea travelling squad for Champions League tie with Ajax announced
Frank Lampard is having his prematch press conference in Amsterdam ahead of Chelseas game with Ajax tomorrow, but the injury update hes giving will affect the team for this weekend too.

Asked for updates on the long list of players hes got carrying at least some form of issue, Lampard said the following, as reported by Nizaar Kinsella of Goal.com.

Lampard on team news: “Ross will hopefully be fit to train by Thursday, Rudiger trained with us today, he will be out of contention for the weekend. NGolo is similarly training but well see for the weekend.” #CFC #UCL

Those are three significant updates. Ross Barkley is frankly the least important, because he doesnt seem to feature in Frank Lampards strongest team. But the other two are significant.

Ajax defender Daley Blind has said that it is “not nice to see” former club Manchester United going through a rough time in terms of form and results, especially when Chelsea, who are under a transfer embargo, appear to be flying high.

Antonio Rudiger is likely to be very much in contention for the first XI, but his endless succession of minor issues seems to be ongoing. Frank doesnt sound confident hell be ready for the weekend.

Chelsea, meanwhile, who travel to face Blinds Ajax on Wednesday in the Champions League, occupy the final spot in the top four, with a young squad tipped to secure qualification for Europes premier club competition next season.

NGolo Kante has more hope, but we seriously doubt hell be risked either. If Lampard can get away with it, we reckon he would like to save them both for another 7 whole days if possible, perhaps aiming for a return in the league cup against Manchester United next Wednesday.

Frank Lampard has just held his press conference ahead of Chelseas Champions League group stage game against Ajax, and if his players were hoping for hints about who was going to start the crucial away tie, they will have come away disappointed.

Most of the team picks itself, and unless Lampard feels players need a rest, he will likely go with his established first team from the league. Christian Pulisic will be hoping to get a start however, having come on and impressed in recent games.

Lampard was asked about whether he had impressed in training but someone hoping to tease out some information about who might be picked, but he gave nothing away in his response, as recorded here by Nizaar Kinsella:

And Zenden told De Telegraaf of his former Blues teammate: If you realise your goals, you get respect and a snowball effect is created.

Lampard says Hudson-Odoi is ready to start a Champions League game but theres no guarentees #CFC #UCL

Hudson-Odoi has been fantastic but seems like a good candidate for a rest given hes only just come back from a long term injury and is just 18. He played twice last week, is he ready to play twice again this week?
