Woman suffers life-threatening injuries in afternoon crash

A woman has been airlifted to a Toronto-area hospital following a collision in Barrie this afternoon.

The single-vehicle crash happened shortly before 2:30 p.m. on Essa Road at Athabaska Road, south of Mapleview Drive.

A serious motor vehicle collision has closed a long stretch of Essa Road indefinitely to start the long weekend.

Barrie police officers were called to the scene in the city's south end at 2:24 p.m., Friday.

Peter Leon, the police department's communications co-ordinator, says one person suffered serious injuries.

“A lone female occupant was airlifted to a Toronto trauma centre where she is suffering from life-threatening injuries,” Leon said.
