Father charged with striking wife, son with pickup in Brampton
A 41-year-old man is facing charges of criminal negligence and dangerous driving after his wife and their seven-year-old son were struck by a truck in the driveway of their own home in Brampton.

Police originally said he had been charged with impaired driving, but after further investigation, those charges were dropped.

The little boy was actually sitting up, leaned up against one of the firefighters. He looked like he mightve been in a little better shape. The woman was laying kind of motionless, they had an apparatus for breathing, like oxygen, on her face. They were tending to her wounds, he said.

Emergency crews were called to the scene around 8:40 a.m. Tuesday in a residential area near Creditview Road and Bovaird Drive West.

Police said the woman’s husband was reversing the truck in the driveway when he ran over his wife and son. The truck then backed into the garage of the unit next door, causing damage to the building.

Peel police Const. Bancroft Wright further explained that the vehicle moved in a circular fashion while backing up, starting from one unit and then crashing into the unit beside it. He says the woman and her son were by the driver’s door when they were struck.

A 36-year-old woman and her seven-year-old son are in life-threatening condition in hospital after being hit by an alleged impaired driver in the driveway of their Brampton, Ont. home Tuesday morning, Peel Regional Police say.

“They were at the driver’s door. So the driver’s door was open and the driver was sitting on the driver’s side. He backed up, striking them with – I’m going to assume the door – but that’s yet to be determined by the investigators,” he said.

He also added that there is structural damage to the unit the car collided into and it’s structural integrity will have to be checked before the vehicle is removed.

He was first arrested at the scene for impaired driving, but on Tuesday night, Const. Iryna Yashnyk said there were “not enough grounds” to charge the man with impaired driving.
