Kidnapping in Brampton turns out to be men filming movie scene: police
Peel Regional Police say a potential kidnapping of a young male in Brampton was unfounded, but was instead a movie scene simulation.

The incident occurred shortly after 6 p.m. on Saturday in the area of Larkspur Public School, near Sandalwood Parkway East and Bramalea Road.

Initially, the victim was walking southbound on the catwalk to the east of the school, then continued walking east towards Field Thistle Drive, according to investigators.

Police clarified in their second statement that they had located the "involved participants" and after interviewing them, were "satisfied that this was not a kidnapping incident but in fact a group of males attempting to simulate a movie-type scene."

Video surveillance had captured a silver Honda Civic driving alongside the victim, police said, when two individuals exited the car and grabbed the victim, throwing him into the trunk of the car.

After further investigation, police said the individuals were identified and interviewed by officers, and found the incident to not be a kidnapping but in fact a group of males “attempting to simulate a movie-type scene”

It is unknown which movie the participants were trying to re-create with this dramatic scene. Police added in their follow-up post that they wanted to thank "the public and the media for their interest and quick response to this incident."

TORONTO – What appeared to be a potential kidnapping in Brampton, Ont., in which a teenager was snatched off the road and thrown in the trunk of a car Saturday evening, was actually just part of an attempt to re-create a movie scene, police say.

Peel police launched an investigation after a video surfaced showing two suspects grabbing and throwing an unidentified male into the trunk of a vehicle in Brampton Saturday night.

The original surveillance footage of the incident showed a teenager walking down the street when a car drove past him, made a U-turn and came to a stop after jumping a curb.

Peel police say the alleged kidnapping incident in Brampton has been confirmed as a group of men attempting to film a movie scene.

Two of the four people inside the vehicle then got out, police said in their original press release, grabbed the teen and took him to the trunk of a silver Honda Civic.

Seeing as police officers have absolutely nothing to do it is totally ‘wise’ to perform an artificial fade kidnapping, Maybe I should arrange an ‘artificial bank robbery and a couple of fake murders cause I saw it in a movie once. I saw the bombing of Hiroshima and Nagasaki too so maybe I should make a couple of atomic bombs ‘just for fun’ of course.

Police said the male victim was walking on a catwalk to the east of Larkspur Public School and headed towards Field Thistle Drive at around 6:10 p.m. when the incident happened.

The surveillance video, police said, showed a silver Honda Civic following the male along the road. The vehicle then drove past the male and made a U-turn, at which point two of the four males inside got out and grabbed the male before pushing him into the truck.

The vehicle then proceeded to drive westbound on Larkspur Road, and then southbound on Dandelion Road, police said.

The last confirmed sighting of the suspect vehicle was on Dandelion Road at Cordgrass Crescent in Brampton.

Sgt. Bancroft Wright told CP24 earlier that police began their investigation after people in the area saw what was believed to be a kidnapping and called it in.

Police said security camera footage from the area showed a silver Honda Civic with four males inside following the victim as he walked along the roadway.

"Naturally, we have taken it as a very serious matter. I know there are times when individuals will go out and do their own video-type production and so on, but this was broad daylight," Wright said. "The number one priority, of course, is the victim. We would like to identify that induvial, and if anyone recognizes the individual from the images that we have, they should contact our office."
