SIU investigating after Guelph crash leaves man with serious injuries

In an unrelated occurrence, a driver fled the area at a high rate of speed and crashed the vehicle in the area of Silvercreek Parkway and Campbell Road. The male driver sustained serious injuries and was taken to hospital.

The Guelph Police Service have notified the Special Investigation Unit about the incident, who have invoked their mandate to investigate.

No further details on this incident will be released by Guelph Police.  Any further inquiries can be made to the S.I.U.

The provinces Special Investigations Unit is in Guelph after an early morning crash sent a man to hospital.

According to a news release from Guelph police, officers were called to the area of Bagot Street and Willow Road at approximately 4:30 a.m. to investigate an incident.

Police say that, in an unrelated occurence, a driver fled the scene at a high rate of speed, crashing the vehicle on Silvercreek Parkway at Campbell Road.

When the Mercury Tribune went to the crash site at approximately 12:30 p.m., investigators were at the scene of the crash. There appears to have been two vehicles involved in this incident, with one showing signs of a fire. Silvercreek between Cambell and Speedvale Avenue is closed due to the investigation.

The SIU is a civilian law enforcement agency, independent of police, that conducts criminal investigations into circumstances involving police and civilians that have resulted in serious injury, death or allegations of sexual assault.

As the SIU has invoked its mandate, Guelph police have said they will not be providing any further comment. A request for comment to the SIU was not immediately returned.
