When they arrived on scene, they found a male who was suffering from what appeared to be serious stab wounds. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
The name of the suspect has not yet been released but police say he will be charged with second-degree murder.
Man allegedly stabbed to death at downtown Hamilton apartment
Police are not releasing names as the name of the victim has not yet been confirmed and police are attempting to locate and notify next of kin, Hamilton police said in a news release issued Sunday.
An autopsy will be performed later this morning at the Hamilton General Hospital to confirm the cause of death.

Hamilton Police were called to the citys fourth homicide of the year just after 9 p.m. Saturday. The 911 call came in as a disturbance at a three-storey apartment building on Lamoreaux Street near Victoria Park. When officers arrived they found a critically injured man in his mid-40s.
Police say shortly after 9 p.m. Saturday, they responded to a disturbance at an apartment located at 15 Lamoreaux Street.
EMS, police and firefighters tried to save him, according to police, but he was pronounced dead on the scene.
Staff Sgt. Steve Bereziuk of the major crime unit says the murder happened inside a unit belonging to the accused.

Robert Sunridge, 45, was arrested at the scene. He made a brief appearance at the John Sopinka Courthouse by video this morning. He was wearing blue custody coveralls and has been ordered to stay away from one person.
The detective, who will manage the investigation, says the two friends were \”relatively unknown to Hamilton Police.\”
A search warrant will be executed in the apartment and the police ACTION Team will canvas the neighbourhood around the scene Sunday morning for witnesses.
The apartment building will be taped off for the continuing investigation and the police forensic team will be on scene.
As of 8 a.m. Sunday, detectives were still in the process of identifying the victim and notifying next of kin, who do not live in Hamilton.
