Man faces murder charge in Hamiltons 4th homicide of 2019 - Global News
Man, 45, charged with second-degree murder in Hamilton homicide
Hamilton police say the city's 4th homicide of 2019 happened in an area near Lamoreaux Street at Strathcona Avenue.

Hamilton police, Fire and Paramedics were called out to an apartment complex at 15 Lamoreaux Street between Dundurn Street North and Strathcona Avenue just after 9:00 p.m. after reports of a disturbance.

Hamilton Police were called to the citys fourth homicide of the year just after 9 p.m. Saturday. The 911 call came in as a disturbance at a three-storey apartment building on Lamoreaux Street near Victoria Park. When officers arrived they found a critically injured man in his mid-40s.

Hamilton police’s major crime unit has taken over the investigation and is asking anyone who may have witnessed the incident to call police at 905-546-4167.

Robert Sunridge, 45, was arrested at the scene. He made a brief appearance at the John Sopinka Courthouse by video this morning. He was wearing blue custody coveralls and has been ordered to stay away from one person.

A search warrant will be executed in the apartment and the police ACTION Team will canvas the neighbourhood around the scene Sunday morning for witnesses.

A 45-year-old man has been arrested in connection with a fatal stabbing in Hamilton on Saturday night.

As of 8 a.m. Sunday, detectives were still in the process of identifying the victim and notifying next of kin, who do not live in Hamilton.

When they arrived on scene, they found a male who was suffering from what appeared to be serious stab wounds. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police have said it happened somewhere between Cochrane and Central streets in Hamilton. An 18 year old was stabbed in the back and his lung was punctured as a result.

The name of the suspect has not yet been released but police say he will be charged with second-degree murder.

Police say he walked to a nearby Tim Hortons on Queenston road and was transported to hospital with non-life threatening injuries shortly before midnight.

Police are not releasing names as the name of the victim has not yet been confirmed and police are attempting to locate and notify next of kin, Hamilton police said in a news release issued Sunday.

An autopsy will be performed later this morning at the Hamilton General Hospital to confirm the cause of death.

Officers will be canvassing the neighbourhood on Sunday to search for anyone who may have witnessed the murder.

Anyone with information about the case is being asked to contact police or Crime Stoppers anonymously.
