Man, 45, charged with second-degree murder in Hamilton homicide
Hamilton police say one man is dead and another arrested after a stabbing Saturday night at a downtown apartment.

Police say shortly after 9 p.m. Saturday, they responded to a disturbance at an apartment located at 15 Lamoreaux Street.

Along with police, paramedics and the fire department attempted to revive the man. Police say the man was pronounced dead on scene.

An autopsy will be performed later this morning at the Hamilton General Hospital to confirm the cause of death, Hamilton police said in a news release issued Sunday.

The man appeared to have been stabbed, according to police. A scheduled autopsy Sunday will confirm the cause of death.

A short time later, a 45-year-old suspect, identified as Robert Surridge, was arrested in connection with the homicide.

Police say a 45-year-old man was quickly arrested on scene, and is expected to be charged with second-degree murder Sunday at the John Sopinka Courthouse in Hamilton.

Anyone with information about the case is being asked to contact police or Crime Stoppers anonymously.

According to police, the name of the victim has not yet been confirmed and police are working on notifying the man's next of kin.

Officers canvassed the neighbourhood on Sunday searching for anyone who may have witnessed the murder.

Police say they will be canvassing the area to locate any possible witnesses and will remain on scene while detectives investigate.

When they arrived on scene, they found a male, identified by officers as Wayne Bilodeau, suffering from what appeared to be serious stab wounds. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
