KINGSTON, Ont. – Provincial police say a man in his 60s is dead after a collision on Highway 401 in Kingston.

OPP say the man got out of his car and was on foot when he was struck by a tractor trailer just before 4 a.m. Saturday.

The westbound lanes on Highway 401 were detoured at Joyceville Road and were reopened early Saturday afternoon. 

However, the investigation is ongoing and police are asking anyone who was in the area at the time to contact them.

Fronteanc OPP says they were called to Highway 401, about 1 kilometre east of Highway 15 at 3:50 a.m. for a report of a pedestrian struck.

The westbound lanes of Highway 401 near Kingston was closed until noon after a pedestrian was struck and killed early Saturday morning.

A pedestrian was struck and killed by a passing tractor trailer on Hwy. 401 near Kingston early Saturday, Ontario Provincial Police reported.

The male victim was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the tractor trailer remained at the scene.

OPP officers from the Frontenac detachment responded to the incident just before 4 a.m. The unidentified man was pronounced dead at the scene.

OPP Technical Collision Investigators were examining the scene on Saturday. Westbound lanes of Hwy. 401  at Joyceville Road reopened just before 1:30 p.m.
