Rescue teams have called off their search for a man who was seen struggling in the Grand River Sunday.

Brian German won a $1 million Maxmillions prize in the Oct. 26 Lotto Max draw. He also won $2 with the Encore selection on his ticket, bringing his total winnings to $1,000,002.

“I was at home alone when I matched the first two numbers, I quickly looked at the city and it said ‘Burnaby,’ which got me very excited,” said Min Tong Zheng, a self-described optimist who enjoys singing and photography. “I continued matching the rest of the five numbers and it matched mine!”

German bought the winning lottery ticket at Sobeys at Columbia Street and Fischer-Hallman Road in Waterloo.

In describing how it felt to win, Zheng said her mind went blank. “I began doubting myself at the moment and it wasn’t until a few days later that it settled in.”
