One dead, five people in hospital after shooting in Mississauga
Emergency officials responded to Morning Star Drive and Darcel Avenue after receiving a call for a shooting at 6:22 p.m.

According to Peel paramedics, one male was pronounced dead at the scene. An adult male is in life-threatening condition and a male under the age of 18 is in serious but non-life threatening condition.

Investigators believe the shooting took place outside an apartment building, but there remains a heavy police presence as officers comb through the building to rule out any other victims or possible suspects, spokesperson Iryna Yashnyk told reporters at the scene. 

A fourth victim, who paramedics describe as a “youth female,” is in serious but non-life threatening condition.

Police say that they are unable to confirm the age and gender of the injured and are searching the area to make sure there are no other victims.

Police say they have several units in the area, including tactical and K9 teams. Investigators are speaking with several witnesses and are canvassing for video, Yashnyk said.

Photos taken at the scene show a heavy police presence. Peel officers say that multiple units, including that of tactical and K9, were in the area.

Peel Regional Police were called to the scene on Darcel Avenue near Morning Star Drive and Goreway Drive at 6:22 p.m.

Yashnyk says there are multiple suspects but no descriptions available at this time. No arrests have yet been made.

One person is dead and five people are in hospital after a shooting in Mississauga, Peel police say.

Emergency crews were called outside an apartment building on Darcel Avenue, in the area Morning Star and Goreway Drives, just before 6:30 p.m. for reports of shots fired.

Sgt. Iryna Yashnyk said they haven’t determine whether the shooting was targeted. “We are still speaking with witnesses and trying to determine that … To our knowledge this wasn’t related to any event or festivity that was taking place.”

Paramedics said a teenage boy and young girl were also taken to a trauma centre with serious injuries.

Police say they are looking to identify multiple suspects at this time, but no arrests have been made. They are warning area residents there will be a heavy police presence for several hours due to the incident.

Paramedics said another teenage boy made its way to Etobicoke General Hospital. He was later taken to a Toronto trauma centre with serious but non-life-threatening injuries.

She added, “We have over 70 units on scene, as well as our forensic units, tactical units and K-9 units. But, at this point, stay vigilant and report any suspicious activity.

"Its very early in the investigation," said Yashnyk when asked if the shooting was targeted.

While the shooting is believed to have occurred outside, investigators have cleared the building “as a precaution to ensure there are no further victims.”

A male victim of a shooting showed up in a west end Toronto hospital shortly afterwards but Peel police have yet to confirm if he was a victim of this shooting.
