Use the crosswalk. It’s that simple. I jaywalked the other day and this car came SPEEDING south on Yonge. I’m like heck no. Never again. I’m not trying to end up like roadkill.

It happened shortly after 7 p.m. near Hurontario Street and Eglinton Avenue East, Peel Regional police said.

The man was rushed to hospital with life-threatening injuries, but was pronounced dead a short time later.

This is not a crosswalk. This is a six-lane roadway. The general traffic travels at 60 kilometres an hour and unfortunately this gentleman got about two lanes in and was struck by a vehicle travelling on the roadway, Const. Danny Marttini told CP24 at the scene.

The driver did remain on scene. Obviously they were suffering from a bit of shock – they actually fainted when they realized exactly what was taking place, Marttini said.

Marttini said police continue to urge both drivers and pedestrians to use more caution on the roads.

The roadway – its a shared area that were all using and everybodys responsible for it, Marttini said.
