'Riverdale' Boss on Season 2: 'It'll Never Become a Slasher Movie'

Riverdale season two premiere is an Archie/Andrews family episode. It’s strange, simply for that fact alone. The surreal dreams, the blood, the incompetence of law enforcement, the ominous Pop speeches, the banding together for answers—all of that makes sense in the context of Riverdale. But it takes some getting used to when you realize all of this is finally in service of Archie and Fred Andrews. Really, “A Kiss Before Dying” should be lauded for doing the impossible in starting off the Riverdale season by finally figuring out how to get Archie to truly be part of the important mystery stuff, one of the character’s major problems in the first season. And all of this is before the audience even knows just how integral Archie (and his status as Hot Archie Who Fucks) is to the greater mystery.

“Finally, when a past betrayal unexpectedly comes to light, Veronica finds herself at a crossroads with Hiram (Mark Consuelos) and Hermoine (Marisol Nichols).”As she turns back from the door, she finds some music sheets on the floor and notices that the window is open. She is approached from behind by what looks to be the same man who shot Fred. He lifts her up with a sharp object pressing into her throat, slicing her neck open.

'Riverdale' Season 2 Premiere Recap: Fred Andrews' Fate Revealed — and Who Died?

Betty became suspicious of Ms. Grundy, and she began to investigate the music teacher with Veronica’s help. The two discovered that the only record of a Ms. Grundy was an old woman who died seven years prior, a nod to the original character from the comics. They later broke into her car and discovered an ID that read Jennifer Gibson and a gun.

At the end of the season premiere came a huge shock twist as Ms. Grundy (Sarah Habel) made a comeback and was seen kissing one of her students.

Riverdale season 2: Who shot Fred Andrews in season 1? Will he survive?

Riverdale’s return reinforces the terror that comes in the form of the place these characters call home, it also serves as an introduction to the same thing being possible nearby. (Yes, the world is terrifying, but Riverdale doesn’t have a monopoly.) That’s where the end tag comes in, with a stop just across the river (Greendale, home of Sabrina Spellman) and to the new home of “Miss Grundy.” It’s unsurprising, in a way, that the con artist and sexual predator masquerading as Geraldine Grundy would barely move far enough away to truly hide her sins—especially when you consider just how little time has past since she left. But as this episode confirms and her original exit implied, her predatory nature is serial. It’s also sickening, as we get official confirmation of just how much the Archie situation was her “thing.” But Riverdale does something unexpected—at least from the way the character was originally written off—and turns one of its worst aspects into a positive. (Kind of like Archie, but classifying him with the word “worst” feels far too negative of a way to describe a kid whose greatest flaw is usually just being a dumb teenager.) There’s a brutality in Grundy’s murder that feels atypical for Riverdale, but at the same time, it makes a couple of things perfectly clear:

While the Season 2 premiere might have been too story-heavy for a single episode, that doesn’t stop it from being one of the better installments of Riverdale yet. It addressed the dangling plots from the Season 1 finale while setting up new mysteries to unfold in the coming episodes.

Riverdale Season 2: Who is Hiram Lodge, and what does his return mean?

“Meanwhile, the gang becomes increasingly concerned for Archie’s (KJ Apa) well being after noticing a string of unusual behavior from him. The most obvious answer would be a business reason: throughout Season 1, Fred refused to sign over his business to Veronica’s mother, Hermione Lodge. That seemed to . . . displease her. And now Veronica’s fearsome father, Hiram Lodge, has come to town as well, complicating matters.

Is Betty’s long-lost brother going to shake up the Cooper family dynamic?

Archie tells his friends that he was paralyzed with fear when the assailant shot Fred. He just got on his knees in the moment and closed his eyes until he heard the shooter leave Pop’s—so it’s totally possible this guy nabbed Fred’s wallet. Archie’s ashamed, but he honestly needs to go easy on himself.

Riverdale fans were definitely shocked. 9 shares Riverdale fans stunned as controversial character returns By Keeley Ryan Riverdale is finally back for the long awaited second season. And the first episode, called A Kiss Before Dying, kicked things off with more than it’s fair share of drama. As the show came to a close, many fans rushed to social media to heap praise on the opening episode, as one person wrote: “Season premiere of #Riverdale has me excited for this season.”

With his former rivals now severely weakened, Hiram will no doubt try to snap up their remaining fortune while taking his revenge. The former Riverdale High teacher, who was run out of town after her affair with Archie was revealed, is seen seducing another student…before becoming the second victim of the mysterious killer. We don’t know why Ms. Grundy was a target or what this villain wants, so we’ll have to stay tuned to see what happens next Wednesday. Welcome back to Riverdale.

Are we going to see Polly [Tiera Skovbye] this season? Can we expect to see her babies?

And yet the debut of Hiram was lost in what followed — the surprise return and immediate death of Miss Grundy (Sarah Habel). The predatory music teacher who spent the early episodes of Season 1 sleeping with Archie returned for a scene showing her involved with another student. She was then immediately brutally murdered.

Riverdale Season 2 Sets Up a Darker Mystery With the Angel of Death

After a whole season of just being mentioned by name, Hiram Lodge finally made his appearance on “Riverdale” Wednesday night. And judging by his first scene, the character is bound to stir up some trouble in the teen drama.

Riverdale season two episode one is available on Netflix now.Of course he’s a bad guy. The fact that it took Veronica as long as it did in the first season for her to put together that her father was actually a villain was nowhere near as frustrating as her bold attempts to rebel against (and constantly address) said villainy, but now with Hiram actually being in the picture, the latter is even more upsetting. Both her rebellion against her father and her mother. The scene where Veronica confronts Hermione in the hospital church is clearly the closest Veronica’s gotten in terms of playing with fire, and it’s scary to see how much she can’t see she’s veering dangerously close to indelible territory. “I should slap you for what you’re insinuating,” Hermione tells her daughter. “But I’m not a violent person.” That’s officially the moment where the audience wants to shake Veronica and tell her to stop. But she’s not going to stop.Archie calls Betty Cooper (Lili Reinhart) to inform her of the tragic news who then shares the update with Veronica Lodge (Camila Mendes) and Jughead Jones (Cole Spouse). As Betty Cooper said in the finale of the first season, “Pretending to be normal and perfect when we’re like a greek suburban tragedy” is at the heart of Riverdale. In the premiere of the second season, though, everyone has almost given up on pretending.
Everything you need to know about Riverdale season 2 In what appeared to be a robbery gone wrong at Pop’s Diner, Fred Andrews was shot, and lay bleeding on the ground. With only 13 episodes in its first year, Riverdale often packed as much plot as humanly possible into each installment. That method or storytelling kept the pace moving so quickly that it felt like viewers were caught in a whirlwind. Now, with 22 episodes to tell a much grander story, it seems like the show’s rapid rate isn’t going away.

'Riverdale' Season 2: Three Main Stars Were Initially Rejected for Their Roles

The Good News: After making us wait almost the entire episode to discover Fred’s fate, fans were able to breathe a sigh of relief because Archie’s father is going to be A-OK after his brush with death at the hands of a masked gunman. Phew! Don’t ever leave us, Fred Andrews. You’re the only sane parent in Riverdale.

Warning: Spoilers ahead for “Riverdale” season two, episode one, “A Kiss Before Dying.”

Riverdale premiere ended without bloodshed. While Archie was fearful the masked shooter would return to finish off his dad, the “angel of death” was actually in the nearby town of Greendale taking care of his next victim: Ms. Grundy, the music teacher who was up to her old ways of making out with teenage boys. The shooter surprised her in her home and killed her. And just like that, we have a murder.

In fact, Betty's fear over Jughead's future gets more consideration than Ms. Grundy in the season two premiere. Back to the idea of no longer pretending: Jughead is now nearly fully embracing his Serpent roots—even without wearing the gift bestowed upon him after his dad refused to snitch. "With or without the jacket you’re still a serpent," Jughead is told. He is basically living in his Serpent father F.P.'s shadow at this point, riding his motorcycle—much to Betty's disapproval—and living in his trailer as his father awaits his sentencing.
