“Georgina always had a hard time pushing herself. For Harvey, promotion’s in his blood,” a fashion insider said. “[He] wasn’t exactly subtle about asking Miramax’s female stars to wear Marchesa on the red carpet. And if the studio chief of your movie, and potential movies, asked you to wear a certain designer, wouldn’t you want to accommodate him?”

Bloom, who built her reputation on representing women in high-profile sexual harassment cases against powerful men, including Bill O’Reilly, Bill Cosby, and Donald Trump, surprised many when she said she was joining Weinstein’s legal team.

Lanny Davis, another adviser to Weinstein, is also no longer representing him, according to someone familiar with the matter. Davis declined to comment or elaborate on the reason for his departure. But the two men had disagreed over how to handle the sexual harassment allegations, with Davis advising a more conciliatory tone and approach than Weinstein seemed willing to adopt.

Weinstein had already indicated on Thursday in his written statement in which he acknowledged his behavior in the past had caused ‘a lot of pain’ that he was taking a leave of absence.

Weinstein hired Lisa Bloom, the woman who orchestrated the campaign to oust Bill O’Reilly from Fox News after sexual-harassment allegations emerged against him. Bloom also represented several victims in the harassment cases against Bill Cosby. In her statement, Bloom seemed to give Weinstein something of a pass for his behavior, calling him “an old dinosaur learning new ways.” (She resigned on Saturday after coming under considerable criticism.)

It’s certainly a word that applies to each man’s victims, the people who — typically behind closed doors — are subjected to intense pressures and confronted with grotesque advances, and then know that if they blow the whistle on the big man’s misconduct, they’ll immediately find themselves shamed and blamed by the big man’s legions of fans and supporters.
