OPP officer charged with harassment

Officers of the Ontario Provincial Polices Rideau Lakes detachment were continuing their investigation into the collision in North Crosby Township.

On Friday, just after 4 p.m., OPP officers responded to a two-vehicle collision at the intersection of Salem Road and the Ninth Concession.

A Chevrolet car heading north on the Ninth Concession entered the intersection and collided with an eastbound GMC truck on Salem Road, said police.

The driver of the Chevrolet, 63-year-old Melanie Mitchell, was pronounce dead at the scene. Two others in the vehicle suffered non-life-threatening injuries and were transported to hospital. There were no injuries to the other driver.

The OPP technical collision investigators and a reconstructionist were called to the scene to help with the investigation.

Officers of the Ontario Provincial Polices Leeds County detachments were investigating more recent incidents involving impaired drivers.

On Saturday, at about 10:25 a.m., OPP officers who observed erratic driving stopped and arrested a driver on County Road 3 in Leeds and the Thousand Islands Township after the driver lost control and drove into the ditch, police reported Tuesday.

Claude Desloges, 66, of the same township, was charged with impaired driving and driving over the blood/alcohol limit.

He is scheduled to appear in Brockville court on Nov. 30. He was also charged under the Highway Traffic Act for driving while under suspension. Thats because Desloges was previously arrested and charged on Nov. 2 for a similar offence, said police.

On Sunday, just after midnight, Leeds OPP officers arrested a driver at a RIDE (Reduce Impaired Driving Everywhere) check on the Thousand Islands Parkway in Leeds and the Thousand Islands Township.

Calvin Parker, 35, who is from the U.S. state of Oregon, was charged with driving over the blood/alcohol limit. He is scheduled to appear in Brockville court on Dec. 7.Both vehicles were towed and impounded.

An unwanted visitor at a south-end home was charged with breaching his release conditions on Monday night, Brockville police reported Tuesday.

At 8:20 p.m., the Brockville Police Service responded to a call for an unwanted guest on Daniel Street, police reported.

A 51-year-old man had gone to a residence contrary to his release conditions from a prior domestic incident, police added.

A 42-year-old man faces charges of assault and uttering a death threat in relation to a domestic incident, Brockville police reported Tuesday.

Officers located the suspect at a King Street address on Monday and arrested him in connection with the offences. He was held in custody pending a bail hearing.

On October 21, the Gananoque Police Service received a report of a theft from an east-end business. As the result of officers investigation, police executed a search warrant and recovered the stolen property.

On Monday, police arrested a 42-year-old man was arrested and charged him with break and enter, theft under $5,000, possession of stolen property, possession of break-in instruments and disguise with intent.

Michael Potter, 42, has been suspended from duty with pay, with a court appearance scheduled for Dec. 11 in Haileybury, the OPP said in a release.

The charges stem from alleged incidents that occurred while the member was on duty, the OPP said.

Potter has been a member of the OPP for 18 years, and is presently assigned to the Temiskaming detachment.

He was arrested and charged by the Professional Standards Bureau of the OPP following an investigation.
