RCMP say the collision occurred at the crossing near Broadway Avenue and Gregg Street in the town north of Red Deer. 

Police are still investigating the cause of the collision. They are not releasing the man's name.

RCMP closed down the roads around the train crossing at Broadway Avenue and Greg Street just before 6 p.m. following the incident.

A 53-year-old man has died after being struck by a train in the town of Blackfalds, Alta., on Wednesday.

RCMP have identified the pedestrian as a 53-year-old man from Red Deer. His name will not be released.

The collision happened at a train crossing in the central Alberta town Wednesday night sometime after 4:30 p.m.

Police say the pedestrian was struck at Broadway Avenue and Gregg Street in the centre of town. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

RCMP say the cause of the collison remains under investigation, and no other injuries were reported.

The Edmonton Oilers improved their record to 6-1 with a 6-3 win over the Philadelphia Flyers at Rogers Place.
