René Kègle, 38, and Francis Martel, 31, were arrested Friday Oct. 12, 2018 in connection with the murder of Ophelie Martin-Cyr, 19.

The Sureté du Quebec has arrested two men in connection with the death of a teenager whose body was found in a field in Yamachiche, west of Trois-Rivieres.

The body of 19-year-old Ophelie Martin-Cyr was discovered by a passerby Wednesday morning, not long after she had been reported missing.

On Thursday police issued warrants for René Kegle, 38, and Francis Martel, 31, for first-degree murder.

Kegle was tracked down and arrested in Repentigny early Friday morning, while Martel was arrested in Montreal.

According to police, Kegle, Martel, Martin-Cyr and a 21-year-old woman were in a car on Tuesday when Kegle tried to kill one woman, firing at her multiple times with a restricted firearm.

The 21-year-old woman was able to escape by jumping out of the moving vehicle after she was shot, and although she was seriously injured she is expected to survive.

Police also say they are not ruling out a connection with another body found in a burned-out car discovered Wednesday in Sainte-Marthe-du-Cap in Trois-Rivieres.

The SQ said the fire was not recent and because of the condition of the body, they are unable to determine the identity of that victim at this time.

Quebec provincial police are investigating a homicide in the Mauricie region, and are trying to determine if the case is connected to the discovery of two other bodies in Trois-Rivières.

René Kègle, 38, and Francis Martel, 31, are expected to appear in court Friday afternoon in connection to the death of 19-year-old Ophélie Martin-Cyr.

Martin-Cyr had been with a friend, a 21-year-old woman, Tuesday night. Police say the friend escaped from a moving vehicle at some point during the night and called police.

It's unclear whether Martin-Cyr was in the car with her friend. Martin-Cyr was reported missing Wednesday morning. Her body had signs of violence on it when it was discovered.

Kègle was arrested in Repentigny and Martel was arrested in Montreal Thursday evening. Police had issued a warrant for the men's arrest on first-degree murder charges earlier this week.

The same night police believe Martin-Cyr was killed, a torched car with the remains of two people inside was found in Sainte-Marthe-du-Cap, 35 kilometres east of the town where Martin-Cyr's body was found.
