The Island Health-run Communicable Disease Prevention and Control Services office on Cook Street received three reports of needle pricks last year, Fyfe said.

Jack Phillips of the Society of Living Illicit Drug Users said volunteers spend four hours a day — two hours in the morning and two hours in the evening — scouring downtown streets for used needles and handing out clean ones.
