Fire on Victoria Street in the early hours Friday
House fire causes traffic restrictions during morning commute
Fire crews were called out around 1:30 to the Willow Inn at 1600 Victoria Street to find three units of the 20 unit motel fully on fire.

Crews quickly gained control and extinguished the fire, but major damage was done to Units 1, 2 and 3.

The fire was quickly brought under control and crews remain on scene to extinguish hot spots and to conclude their search of the structure.

City police are asking motorists to find an alternative route on their way to work this morning after a fire at a “boarded-up” house shut down traffic on parts of Eighth Street East.

There were no injuries reported as a result of the blaze, which is estimated to have caused $100,000 in damages, and a news release from the Saskatoon Fire Department indicated calls for the fire came in at around 5 a.m.

A total of five crews were dispatched to the fire and when they arrived on scene, they found a two-storey house with a large amount of smoke and flames coming form the back of the house. An exterior attack was started on the fire as it was determined the house was unstable.

The fire was quickly brought under control and crews remain on scene to extinguish hot spots and to conclude their search of the structure.

A fire investigator was called to the scene and police say traffic restrictions at Eighth Street East and Eastlake will continue for much of the morning.

Motorists are advised to find an alternative route to work for their morning commute as fire crews clear the scene.
