Police investigating theft of more than 100 brass vases from Whitby cemetery

Two Greater Toronto Area police forces have launched investigations into the theft of hundreds of bronze vases from local cemeteries.

Investigators are asking for the public’s assistance in finding those responsible for the theft. Anyone with new information about this incident is asked to call Det. Const. VanBelleghem, of Central West Division criminal investigations bureau, at 1-888-579-1520, ext. 1854.

According to Peel Regional Police, a total of 269 of the vases were stolen from Mount Peace Cemetery, St. Marys Cemetery and Assumption Cemetery in Mississauga between April 7 and Sept. 24 of this year.

Durham Regional Police say that a suspect or suspects made off with about 200 bronze vases between Oct. 3 and Oct. 6.

Anonymous information can be sent to Durham Regional Crime Stoppers at 1-888-579-1520, and tipsters could be eligible for a $2,000 cash reward.

More than 100 decorative brass vases were taken from burial plots at Mount Lawn Cemetery between Oct. 3 and 6.
