Princess Eugenie marries in 2nd big U.K. royal wedding of the year
Celebrities joined British royalty at Windsor Castle today for the second big royal wedding of the year, with Princess Eugenie, granddaughter of Queen Elizabeth, following her cousin Prince Harry down the aisle.

Princess Eugenie, granddaughter of Queen Elizabeth, marries today in the second major royal wedding of the year at Windsor Castle, following in the footsteps of her cousin Prince Harry and his wife, Meghan.

Friday, October 12, 2018, 6:26 AM – Queen Elizabeths granddaughter Princess Eugenie married wine merchant Jack Brooksbank at Windsor Castle on Friday in front of celebrities and Britains senior royals including Prince Harry and wife Meghan who wed at the same venue in May. Eugenie, 28, younger daughter of the queens third child, Prince Andrew, and his ex-wife, Sarah Ferguson, the Duchess of York, tied the knot with Brooksbank, 32, in a traditional ceremony in the castles 15th Century St Georges Chapel.

Eugenie, 28, younger daughter of the Queen's third child, Prince Andrew, and his ex-wife, Sarah Ferguson, the Duchess of York, married Jack Brooksbank, 32, at the monarch's home to the west of London.

The ceremony was conducted by the Dean of Windsor David Conner, and Eugenies elder sister, Princess Beatrice, the maid of honor, read an extract from the F. Scott Fitzgerald novel “The Great Gatsby” which the bride had read after meeting her future husband in the Swiss ski resort of Verbier in 2010.

Windsor Castle was also the venue for Harry and Meghan's wedding in May, and Eugenie, ninth-in-line to the throne, has copied much of her cousin's blueprint for her big day.

The ceremony took place at the castle's 15th-century St. George's Chapel with the Dean of Windsor David Conner officiating. Charity guests and 1,200 members of the public have been invited into the grounds for the occasion.

Security around Windsor was tight, with airport-style security checks and large numbers of police. As Eugenie does not carry out official royal duties, republicans have said it is wrong that the estimated 2 million pound ($2.6 million) security bill will be paid by taxpayers.

One noticeable absentee was Camilla, the Duchess of Cornwall, the wife of heir-to-the-throne Prince Charles, as she was carrying out an engagement in Scotland.

While Harry's wedding featured a fiery sermon from a U.S. Episcopalian bishop and a gospel choir, Eugenie's was more traditional with a performance by Italian tenor Andrea Bocelli and the address given by Conner.

The 92-year-old queen and her husband Philip, 97, who has retired from official engagements, were joined by other royals and celebrities including Hollywood stars Liv Tyler and Demi Moore, models Kate Moss and Naomi Campbell and singer Ellie Goulding.

Her elder sister Princess Beatrice, the maid of honour, delivered one of the readings, an extract from The Great Gatsby.

Several celebrities were among the guests — including singer Robbie Williams, actress Liv Tyler, models Naomi Campbell and Cara Delevingne, actress Demi Moore, television presenter Stephen Fry, and singers James Blunt and Ellie Goulding.

The mother-of-two was there to watch her cousin Princess Eugenie walk down the aisle to marry her long-term boyfriend Jack Brooksbank at St Georges Chapel, five months after Prince Harry and Meghan tied the knot at the same venue.

Princess Charlotte, three, daughter of Harry's elder brother, Prince William, and his wife, Kate, was a bridesmaid while her brother, Prince George, five, was a page boy.

Princess Annes daughter opted for British couturier Claire Mischevani, a brand she has turned to on a number of occasions, with her vibrant mid-length frock boasting a high collar and feather brooch detail.

After the service, the couple was to embark on an open-top carriage tour of Windsor, although shorter than the one Harry and Meghan, now the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, took when thousands lined the streets of the town.

She paired the blue number with an elaborate grey floral hat from Juliette Botterill, teamed with suede heels of the same colour, while her husband Mike matched in a navy tie.

As Eugenie — ninth-in-line to the throne — does not carry out official royal duties, republicans and some newspapers have said it is wrong that the security bill for the event will be paid for by taxpayers because the Royal Family are only paying for the wedding itself.

But local council deputy leader Phillip Bicknell was relishing the prospect of another big royal draw.

"The monarch and her family are part of the shop window for Great Britain, and at the end of the day anything that goes on that creates people wanting to come to this part of the world — come and see what goes on in Windsor — we're very happy for that," he said.

There were occasional blue skies on a generally cloudy, gusty day as the royal standard flew atop the Windsor Castle complex, indicating the queen was in residence. The strong winds forced many women to hold on to their elaborate hats as they approached the chapel.

The 92-year-old queen and her husband Philip, 97, who has retired from official engagements, were joined by other royals and celebrities including Hollywood stars Liv Tyler and Demi Moore, models Kate Moss and Naomi Campbell and singer Ellie Goulding.

Female guests had to cling on to their hats as a blustery wind threatened their wedding outfits and a page boy tripped on the stairs walking into the chapel.

The couple invited 1,200 members of the public to come onto the castle grounds for a closer glimpse of proceedings. There were also crowds of well-wishers on the streets outside the imposing castle.

Victoria Beckham is said to be swapping the catwalk for the aisle alongside footballer husband David – with Eugenie having attended their daughter Harper’s sixth birthday party at Buckingham Palace.

“It’s a lovely way to honor the people who looked after me and a way of standing up for young people who also go through this,” she told ITV’s “This Morning” ahead of the wedding.

Guests arrived at the venue as Storm Callum started battering the UK with torrential rain and 76mph winds, leaving an estimated 30,000 homes and businesses without power and causing major transport disruption.

“There will be a few more people than most people have, there are a few more than Harry had, but that’s just the nature of Eugenie and Jack – they’ve got so many friends that they need a church of that size to fit them all in,” he told “This Morning” which broadcast the event live.

Several hundred singing and cheering well-wishers gathered outside in Windsor in the shadow of the castle, far fewer than the thousands that crammed into the town for Harry’s wedding.

The most powerful winds were recorded on the Isles of Scilly in the early hours of Friday morning, while 60mph gales were recorded in Camborne in Cornwall and Milford Haven in Pembrokeshire.

“I’m a true royalist,” David Weeks, 77, bedecked in a Union Jack suit and bowler hat, told Reuters. “I was here for the queen’s 90th birthday. I was here for Harry and Meghan’s wedding, I wouldn’t miss it, I love the atmosphere.”

It was Eugenie who set Harry and her long-time pal Cressida up in 2012, with the actress and dancer posting a tribute to Eugenie on her birthday and calling her “pooch face”.

The ceremony was conducted by the Dean of Windsor David Conner, and Eugenie‘s elder sister, Princess Beatrice, the maid of honor, read an extract from the F. Scott Fitzgerald novel “The Great Gatsby” which the bride had read after meeting her future husband in the Swiss ski resort of Verbier in 2010.

This morning, powerful winds reaching 76mph have already started to wreak havoc in Ireland and Northern Ireland, where tens of thousands of homes experienced power loss overnight.

A trio of jaw-dropping supermodels are just some of those set to strut their stuff in Windsor – including head-turners Karlie Kloss, Kate Moss and Naomi Campbell.

“One particular passage in which Jay Gatsby is described reminded her immediately of Jack,” Conner said. “She decided she wanted eventually to let Jack know how much those words had brought him to mind.”

One noticeable absentee was Camilla, the Duchess of Cornwall, the wife of heir-to-the-throne Prince Charles, as she was carrying out an engagement in Scotland.

Eugenie, younger daughter of the Queens third child Prince Andrew and his former wife Sarah Ferguson, the Duchess of York, will tie the knot with Jack Brooksbank, at the monarchs Windsor Castle home on Friday.

Eugenie, 28, ninth-in-line to the throne and a director at Londons Hauser & Wirth art gallery, and Brooksbank, 32, who works in the drinks and hospitality industry, are copying some of her cousins plans.

After the service, the couple took an open-top horse-drawn carriage tour of Windsor before a reception at the castle, hosted by the queen.

Eugenie is a director at London’s Hauser & Wirth art gallery, and Brooksbank owns a wine wholesale business and is European brand manager for Casamigos Tequila, which was co-founded by U.S. actor George Clooney.

Security around Windsor was tight, with airport-style security checks and large numbers of police. As Eugenie does not carry out official royal duties, republicans have said it is wrong that the estimated 2 million pound ($2.6 million) security bill will be paid by taxpayers.

Writing in the Times newspaper, commentator Matthew Bell said the grandeur of the wedding showed Prince Andrew’s desire to cement his family’s royal status.

“When it is all over, Eugenie will continue to live with an identity experienced by a tiny minority: as a fully fledged princess, gawped at, envied and scrutinized by all,” Bell wrote.

“Yet as the years roll by, and her royal status diminishes, as a peripheral figure of almost no consequence at all.”
